December 1st Recipe

I've been working away on a collaboration with a friend and chef
Sung Uni Lee. We both feel passionate about buying locally and eating
seasonally so we've decided to share this with my readers.

Every month on the 1st and 15th Sung will create a recipe using
ingredients featured in my 2010 calendar. I will illustrate these
recipes and at the end of the year we'll have 24 wonderful treats to
turn into a cook book.
We're also working on filming the making of each recipe
so stay tuned for that.

To launch our project check out the first recipe below.
Then our regular postings will commence January 1st.

Happy December 1st

Well, where do I start. I planned on blogging at
9am this morning but things have been busy over here.
What a lovely way to begin December with 2 wonderful
pieces of press.

Firstly thanks to Grace over at Design*Sponge for
featuring my tea towels. I can't keep up with the orders
today-it's wonderful.

And secondly Tribal Alphabet received a lovely mention
in the New York Magazine Gifted holiday guide.

I have been waiting for this moment for so long when
I could finally show my finished tea towels.
So, here they are and they received a nice introduction to
the market when I sold them yesterday at the Bowery Bazaar.

Roman's pigeon

I was sent this today by a boy called Roman who I met at the
Brooklyn Museum on Saturday. He loved the pigeon and this is
a result of his great coloring skills. Thanks Roman.

Weekend events

I had a great weekend crammed full of inspiring moments.
The Children's Book Fair at the Brooklyn Museum was such a success.
Thanks to all that came out and supported me.
I made some coloring sheets for kids to do and it was wonderful
to watch how engaged and focused they were and it reconfirms that
I must do my coloring books.

And the reason I'm so happy and my table is empty is that I completely sold
out of Tribal Alphabet with still an hour to go. Luckily I brought business cards.

And then yesterday we went to visit the studio of R. Gregory Christie,
an illustrator whose work has always filled me with joy.
He was showing original paintings, prints and selling his children's book.
He has so many under his belt that it was hard to choose.
Then there was a musical moment of jazz put to the words of some of his books.
It was one of those beautiful Brooklyn moments.

This is one of the books we chose and I'm not a
boxing fan but on reading it last night to my boys
I learned so much about the life of Muhammad Ali.

Fall Delights

I had a pretty wonderful evening yesterday attending a benefit for PS8
in Brooklyn. My publisher's kids go there and she'd organized a reading
for New York's literati which was topped off with a guest appearance from
Gabriel Byrne reading from Dubliners by James Joyce. Nan and I also shared
a little with the audience on the work behind Tribal Alphabet.

I've also got some pictures from last Sunday at the Brooklyn Flea.
I'd like to say a big thanks to Rebecca and Lena for including me.

This Saturday 21st November from 12-4pm I will be part of the Children's Book Fair
at the Brooklyn Museum. There's going to be plenty of fun activities for the kids
and I'll have some new coloring pages from Tribal Alphabet at my table.
Please stop, say "hi" and pick up a signed copy of Tribal Alphabet.
